ScaleWise - Supporting Continuous Growth in Large-Scale Distributed Software Development

Project ScaleWise is dedicated to the organizational scaling and onboarding processes when integrating a large number of new hires into ongoing software development organizations.

Aim of the project

The project seeks answers to the following questions: What are the real effects of scaling on product and organizational performance (cost, productivity, quality and culture)? What sourcing strategies are effective for scaling (scaling up internally vs. scaling out with own sites or external suppliers)? What helps teams, product environments and organizations to scale successfully?

Implementation

ScaleWise will conduct a holistic study of scaling processes that aims to build a theory and take into account team, product and organizational perspectives (socio-technical aspects). Our goal is to understand the trade-offs when scaling locally versus remotely, preventive measures and practices that minimize negative effects of scaling on performance (cost, productivity and quality) and develop a set of actionable recommendations for scaling and onboarding.
