SNAC B – Swedish National Study on Ageing and Care Blekinge
SNAC operates in four areas: Hälsingland; Nordanstig, Stockholm; Kungsholmen and Essingeöarna, Blekinge; Karlskrona and Skåne; Eslöv, Hässleholm, Malmö, Osby and Ystad. SNAC started in 2001 on the initiative of the government and is supported by the Ministry of Social Affairs and the municipalities, county councils and universities in the four areas.
Purpose of the project
SNAC is a research project on people aged 60 or older. The project is a longitudinal study with recurrent measurements over a 30-year period. The aim is to increase knowledge about aging and the role of environment, lifestyle and previous circumstances for health and well-being. Future needs for health and social care are in focus.
Implementation
In Blekinge, research is conducted in several areas. Examples of some of these areas are:
- Dental health in the elderly and the importance of oral health for general health.
- Multidisease - developing instruments for calculating population morbidity and why we age differently.
- The role of lifestyle in health and well-being.
- Occupational science with a focus on studying those working and not working between the ages of 60 and 65.
- Studies on cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cognitive function.
- Quality of care and the environmental factors associated with health and social care needs.
- Naturopathic drug use in relation to other drug use, lifestyle and psychological factors.
