Admission to Research Studies

Admission to research studies is regulated by the Higher Education Ordinance and the admission regulations at BTH.

Admission

To pursue third-cycle studies, you need to be admitted to a third-cycle study program.

You can find announcements of available places by following the link at the bottom of thsi page and on BTH's official notice boards. Applications for third-cycle studies can be made continuously during the academic year, whenever there is a position open.

Admission to third-cycle studies can sometimes lead to employment as a PhD student at BTH, but there are also other forms of funding for third-cycle studies. At BTH there are PhD projects funded by companies, for example.

Eligibility

Eligibility for third-cycle studies is specified in the Higher Education Ordinance, the admission regulations and any specific eligibility in the general syllabus for the third-cycle subject in question.

General entry requirements (Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 7, Section 39)

General entry requirements for third-cycle education are met by those who have

Completed a second-cycle degree,
Completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at second-cycle level, or
Acquired essentially equivalent knowledge in some other way within or outside Sweden.

Specific entry requirements (Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 7, Section 40)

The specific entry requirements must be absolutely necessary for the student to be able to benefit from the education. The requirements may relate to

  1. Knowledge from higher education or equivalent education
  2. specific professional experience
  3. Necessary language skills or other conditions required by the course

Additional specific requirements are specified in the general syllabus of the subject.
