Goin' is a voluntary, stand‑alone app for students who want to get to know other students. The app is not part of admission or education at BTH and does not affect courses or examinations.
How our partnership with Goin’ works
If you choose to use Goin', you create an account directly with Goin' and accept their terms and privacy policy. We recommend that you read Goin’s Privacy Statement before registering.
As with all social platforms, you should only share information you are comfortable with. Avoid sensitive personal data and review your visibility and privacy settings.
BTH does not share any information about you with Goin' and does not offer login via a BTH account (Single Sign‑On).
Registration takes place directly with Goin'. Students who wish to use the app create an account themselves and enter their information when setting up their profile.
To join the BTH student community on Goin’, you need a dedicated invitation link.
If a higher education institution enables Single Sign‑On (SSO), Goin' can automatically prefill certain information, such as name, email address, date of birth, hometown, campus, programme and year of study.
BTH has not enabled SSO and does not share any data with Goin'.
BTH informs students that the service is available as a social platform. BTH does not request or collect any personal data for Goin' and does not send any student data to the provider
What information is requested in the app?
When no information is prefilled, the student enters the data that Goin' lists as necessary to use the service. This may include:
- name
- email address and password
- date of birth
- interests
- hometown and country of origin
- Gender (if applicable)
- degree type
- profile picture
- a brief background description
How this data is processed is described in Goin’s Privacy Statement.
Does this comply with the principle of data minimisation?
Under the GDPR, personal data must be adequate, relevant and limited to what is necessary for the purpose. Goin', as the data controller, must be able to justify why each mandatory field is required for the networking purpose.
The student also chooses whether to use the app and must decide whether to consent to providing the information.
According to Goin', other students within the same community (i.e. the same higher education institution) can see certain basic information, such as name, country, city and education. Contacts approved by the student can see more of the profile.
Is personal data transferred outside the EU/EEA?
Goin' states that data is stored within the EU/EEA. However, some suppliers may have remote access from third countries, for example a development partner in Serbia. Email services that store data within the EU/EEA may also be subject to US legislation, which could theoretically allow access from the United States.
Goin' states that it uses Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and carries out Transfer Impact Assessments (TIAs) to manage these risks. SCCs are one of the safeguards permitted under the GDPR for transfers to third countries.
Does BTH request additional personal data via Goin?
No. BTH does not request or send any student data to Goin'. Students who wish to use the service register directly with Goin'.
Why are date of birth, profile picture or interests mandatory?
Goin' designs its own profile model and is responsible for ensuring that each mandatory field is necessary for the purpose of the service, i.e. networking. Under the GDPR, Goin' must be able to justify these choices in line with the principle of data minimisation.
