Good study habits and effective study techniques that really work for you are important for you to succeed in your studies. At the Academic Skills Centre you can get individual guidance to improve your study techniques. We give you tips on study strategies that make studying easier.
This is how it works
- Each tutoring session is 45 minutes long.
- You choose whether you want a physical meeting or a digital meeting via Zoom.
- You need to bring note-taking materials and preferably a calendar.
- You get help to identify the study techniques that suit your study situation.
Study techniques
Course literature must be read, exams must be written and group work must be completed. Studying at university means taking great responsibility for your studies and planning your time. It is about:
- Establishing good habits and routines.
- Develop your learning strategies.
- Plan for study sessions on your own.
- Making the most of the time before, during and after a study session.
- Learn effective techniques for reading, remembering and taking notes.
- Find what motivates you to spend time studying.
Study planning
- Write down all lectures, exams and deadlines.
- Add social activities and private commitments.
- Include study sessions of an optimum duration.
- Add regular breaks and recovery periods.
- At the end of each week: evaluate and draw up a new plan.
Psst! Remember that full-time studies = a 40-hour working week
Indicate whether your matter concerns study techniques or academic writing. You can also specify if you prefer assistance via Zoom; otherwise, we will meet in person in H211 in the library.
Please note: If you need to discuss your choice of studies, change of programme or adapted study plan, you should book a study counsellor meeting instead.
