Within Europe - Erasmus+

Erasmus+ is a meritorious European exchange program, well known among employers both in Sweden and abroad. Through Erasmus+ you have the opportunity to go on exchange to one of BTH's many partner universities in Europe. The exchange can take place at bachelor's, master's or doctoral level, either as part of education or as a traineeship.

Study or practice in Europe

Through Erasmus+, you can study at one of BTH's partner universities in Europe at bachelor, master or doctoral level. You can also do a traineeship abroad as part of your education.

Erasmus+ is funded by the EU and promotes international cooperation in education, youth and sport. As a student, you can apply for financial support for exchange studies or traineeships for 2-12 months.

  • are a registered and active student at BTH with the aim of obtaining a degree
  • are a full-time student or trainee during your exchange
  • participate in an exchange or traineeship of a minimum of 60 and a maximum of 360 days per level of education (bachelor, master and doctoral level) for longer mobility

Countries participating in Erasmus+

Erasmus+ is open to studies and placements in the following countries:

  • EU Member States*
  • Iceland
  • Liechtenstein
  • North Macedonia
  • Norway
  • Serbia
  • Turkey

* Also includes certain regions, such as outermost regions (ORs ) and overseas countries and territories.

The United Kingdom and Switzerland do not participate in Erasmus+ during the 2021-2027 programming period, but it may be possible to apply for scholarships for exchange studies in these countries.

Erasmus mobility

Students who have been accepted for an Erasmus exchange are awarded a physical mobility grant, provided that the conditions are met and grant funds are available.

Erasmus+ Traineeships - Traineeships abroad

Through Erasmus+, you can undertake a traineeship in a company or organization in one of the countries covered by the programme. The traineeship will give you international experience and can boost your future career.

Different types of Erasmus+ traineeships

There are two types of Erasmus+ traineeships:

  • During your studies - for example, as a summer traineeship in addition to your regular study program.
  • After graduation (Recent Graduate traineeship ) - a non-credit-bearing traineeship carried out after completing your studies.

Important to know about Recent Graduate traineeships

  • You must apply for an Erasmus traineeship during your final semester at BTH.
  • The traineeship must be completed within 12 months from the date of graduation.
  • If you have already graduated, you can no longer apply for an Erasmus traineeship.

Language tests and online language courses

Students participating in an Erasmus+ mobility lasting longer than 13 days must take a compulsory language test in the main language of instruction before the start of the exchange or placement. There is also the possibility to participate in an online language course to improve language skills before and during the stay abroad.

Erasmus+ Student Charter

The Erasmus+ Student Charter sets out your rights and obligations during your placement and studies.

Green travel - additional support for sustainable travel

Sustainability is one of the four focus areas of the Erasmus programme 2021-2027. As an Erasmus student, you can apply for an additional travel grant(top-up) of €50 if you travel in an environmentally friendly way to and from your host country. This can be, for example, by train, bus or carpool (at least two people in the car). Boats do not count as green travel.

You can also get funding for up to 2 travel days before and 2 travel days after your mobility if needed.

How to apply for the green travel top-up

Send an email to out.exchange@bth.se to apply. If you are unsure whether your mode of travel qualifies as green travel, contact the International Office.

Criteria for top-up

To receive the grant, you must:

  • Travel in an environmentally friendly way both to and from your host country (train, bus or carpool with at least two people).
  • Provide proof of travel after the end of the mobility that proves your sustainable travel.
  • Be aware that travel days are granted for travel before the start date and after the end date indicated in your Certificate of Attendance.
  • Be aware that travel days granted do not count towards the minimum mobility period requirement of 60 days.
  • Make sure that green travel is included in your Grant Agreement.

Study courses within BAUHAUS4EU

BTH is part of BAUHAUS4EU – a European university alliance of ten institutions from across Europe. Together, we are shaping the future of learning, teaching, research and innovation.

You can study courses through our partner universities, either on site or as shorter blended intensive programmes (BIP) that combine digital and physical elements.

This gives you the opportunity to:

  • broaden your knowledge
  • gain new perspectives
  • meet students and teachers from all over Europe

Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP)

Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) are courses jointly organized by several universities and combine physical mobility (5-30 days) with a mandatory virtual component. This flexible exchange format allows students from all backgrounds, disciplines and levels to participate in international exchanges.

Erasmus+ scholarship

If you participate in an Erasmus+ short-term blended mobility, you can receive an Erasmus+ grant for the physical mobility, provided the basic conditions are met and grant funds are available.

Apply for this year's BIP

Want to study a course and spend a week in another European country? Apply for this year's Blended Intensive Program (BIP) and receive funding through Erasmus+.

Blandade intensivprogram (BIP)

  • A course worth at least 3 ECTS credits.
  • A physical mobility period in the host country lasting 5–30 days.

Funding for the BIP

As a student, you will receive funding from Erasmus+ to participate.

If you are admitted to the Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP), you can apply for an Erasmus+ grant for the part of the program that is based at the host institution or elsewhere in the host country (physical mobility).
