Within Europe - Erasmus+
Erasmus+ is a meritorious European exchange program, well known among employers both in Sweden and abroad. Through Erasmus+ you have the opportunity to go on exchange to one of BTH's many partner universities in Europe. The exchange can take place at bachelor's, master's or doctoral level, either as part of education or as a traineeship.
Information for fee‑paying students who want to go on an Erasmus+ exchange
If you are a fee‑paying student and wish to participate in an Erasmus+ exchange, the courses you take abroad must be credited towards your degree at BTH. This applies to both short‑term mobility, such as Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP), and long‑term exchange studies.
If the courses cannot be credited towards your degree, you will need to pay a tuition fee for the number of credits included in the exchange.
For questions about exchange, contact the International Office out.exchange@bth.se
Study or practice in Europe
Through Erasmus+, you can study at one of BTH's partner universities in Europe at bachelor, master or doctoral level. You can also do a traineeship abroad as part of your education.
Erasmus+ is funded by the EU and promotes international cooperation in education, youth and sport. As a student, you can apply for financial support for exchange studies or traineeships for 2-12 months.

You can take part in Erasmus+ if you:
- are registered as an active student at BTH with the goal of completing a degree
- study or do a full-time internship during the exchange
- take part in a mobility lasting between 60 and 360 days per level of study
- in the case of short-term mobility, participate in a blended mobility lasting 5–30 days
- do not exceed a total of 360 days per level of study
- have an approved Learning Agreement
- have your studies accredited at BTH
- take a language test if your exchange lasts more than 13 days
- submit the final Erasmus+ participant survey after your exchange
- submit a Certificate of Attendance
- do not receive other EU-funded scholarships at the same time
Countries participating in Erasmus+
- EU Member States (including some specific territories such as outermost regions and overseas countries and territories)
- Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey
Please note:
The United Kingdom and Switzerland are not part of the Erasmus+ programme for the period 2021–2027.
Erasmus+ Exchange and Internship
Exchange studies
If you are nominated, you will receive a grant for physical mobility, provided all conditions are met and funding is available.
Erasmus internship
You can do an internship:
- during your studies (e.g. a summer internship)
- after graduation (Recent Graduate internship)
Important information about recent graduate internships
- You must apply for an Erasmus internship during your final semester at BTH.
- The internship must take place within 12 months of your graduation date.
- If you have already received your degree, you are no longer eligible to apply for an Erasmus internship.
How the grant works
The Erasmus+ grant helps cover additional costs, but not everything. You don’t need to apply for it separately – all nominated students receive it.
You must first apply for studies or internships via the MoveON database. If you are nominated to a partner university and have uploaded your Certificate of Arrival in MoveON, you may receive the Erasmus+ grant.
The grant amount is based on a daily rate, which is the same for all students from Swedish universities.
Grant amount 2025/26
- €580/month (€19.33/day) for Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, and the United Kingdom
- €530/month (€17.66/day) for Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Latvia, Malta, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, and Turkey
Grant payment
- 80% when your exchange begins and your Certificate of Arrival is submitted
- 20% after your exchange, once your final report is completed
Travel support
You automatically receive a travel grant based on the distance between Karlskrona and your host city, plus two extra travel days.
Green travel
You receive a higher travel grant if more than half of your journey is made using low-emission transport (such as train, bus, or carpooling). If the sustainable travel option takes longer, you may apply for up to four additional “green” travel days.
Requirements:
- Apply before travelling (not afterwards)
- Use sustainable transport both ways
- Submit travel documentation
Examples of Travel Grants:
- 100–499 km: €285 with green travel (€211 without)
- 500–1999 km: €417 with green travel (€309 without)
- 2000–2999 km: €535 with green travel (€395 without)
Additional grant support (top-up)
A top-up means you can receive extra financial support on top of the standard Erasmus+ grant. This applies if you:
- have a permanent or long-term disability, including one caused by physical or mental health issues
- have a child under the age of 18, regardless of whether the child travels with you
- have previously had, or currently have, protection status in Sweden
About protection status
Protection status means you have been granted protection in Sweden, for example as a refugee or for other serious humanitarian reasons. It also includes cases where you previously held a residence permit based on protection grounds. Other types of residence permits are not included.
To apply for the top-up, contact your international coordinator at BTH. You will need to present the first page of your residence permit decision from the Swedish Migration Agency.
Inclusion support
If you have additional expenses that exceed the top-up amount, you can also apply for inclusion support from the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR).
Language test and language courses
If your exchange lasts more than 13 days, you are required to take a mandatory language test in the language of instruction before your exchange begins. You will also get access to an online language course.
Student UT insurance from Kammarkollegiet
All registered exchange students are covered by the Student UT insurance during their study period abroad.
Limitations:
- Only valid in the host country
- Not valid if the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs advises against travel. See more at regeringen.se
- Special rules apply if you are a citizen of the host country or have lived there previously

Study courses within BAUHAUS4EU
BTH is part of BAUHAUS4EU – a European university alliance of ten institutions from across Europe. Together, we are shaping the future of learning, teaching, research and innovation.
You can study courses through our partner universities, either on site or as shorter blended intensive programmes (BIP) that combine digital and physical elements.
This gives you the opportunity to:
- broaden your knowledge
- gain new perspectives
- meet students and teachers from all over Europe
Blended intensive programmes (BIP)
Blended intensive programmes (BIP) are courses organised jointly by several universities and combine physical mobility (5–30 days) with a mandatory virtual component. This flexible exchange format allows students from any background, field of study, or level to take part in international exchanges.
Erasmus+ grant
If you take part in a short blended mobility within Erasmus+, you may receive an Erasmus+ grant for the physical mobility, provided the basic conditions are met and funds are still available.
Apply for this year’s BIP
Interested in taking a course and spending a week in another European country? Apply for this year’s blended intensive programme (BIP) and receive support through Erasmus+.
Blended intensive programmes (BIP)
- A course worth at least 3 ECTS credits.
- A physical mobility period in the host country lasting 5–30 days.
- A virtual component, organised by the host university, with clear learning objectives and group work. The virtual part may vary in duration.
- Students and teachers from several European countries participate.

Read about the course you’re interested in to make sure you meet the entry requirements and that the dates for both the online component and the week on site work for you. Each course description includes a link to an application form where you enter your details.
As a student, you can receive support from Erasmus+ to participate.
If you are accepted to an Erasmus+ blended intensive programme (BIP), you may apply for an Erasmus+ grant for the part of the programme that takes place at the host university or elsewhere in the host country (physical mobility).
Submit your expression of interest via the MoveON database.
You cannot receive a grant for the virtual component, even if you choose to stay in the host country during that part.
