Library account

Activate your library account to borrow books. Your BTH card then works as your library card. Use your student login to access e‑books, articles and databases from home.

Microsoft 365 and email

As a BTH student, you get access to Microsoft 365, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, OneDrive and more. Your BTH email address is used for all important communication — check it regularly.

Canvas - your learning platform

In Canvas, you will find course materials, assignments, and communication from your teachers. Once you are admitted and registered, your courses will appear automatically.

Program students also have a program page with information from the programme manager.

Zoom

Many lectures, meetings and supervision sessions use Zoom. You log in with your BTH account.

Ladok – student record system

In Ladok you register for courses, check results, and download certificates.

All information in Ladok is public.

Course syllabus

Every course has a syllabus that explains content, prerequisites, examination method, required literature and more. It is a good idea to read it before the course starts.

Curriculum and programme overview

Each programme has a syllabus that shows which courses are included and in what order.

The programme overview complements the syllabus. It provides details about the courses, including prerequisites and when they are offered.

Check the programme overview regularly to plan your studies and make sure you meet the requirements for upcoming courses.

Keep in mind that both the curriculum and the programme overview are updated each semester. The latest version is always available in the programme overview.

Sign-up for exams

To be allowed to take an exam, you must register in time - late registration is not possible. The registration period is 14 days.

Also make sure you know what aids are allowed.

Prerequisite check within programmes

Before each course starts, BTH checks whether you meet the prerequisites for continuing in your programme.

If you do not meet the entry requirements, you will receive an email from the Admissions Office informing you that you cannot be admitted to the course.

Changes in your studies

If you want to take a break, resume studies, or transfer credits, you will need to apply. This might also affect your student aid or residence permit — so double-check if needed.

Talk to a study counselor before you make any changes. There may be another solution that you have not thought of.

Examination

Examinations at BTH can take different forms, such as:

  • written exams
  • written submissions
  • presentations
  • seminars
  • group work

You will find details about the examination format in the course syllabus.

Re-examinations

You usually have at least five opportunities to complete an examination, but some courses have limitations — check the course syllabus or ask your teacher.

If you fail an examination, you can register for the next examination session.
However, you are not allowed to retake an examination to improve a passing grade.

Re-registration

  • If you need to retake a course, you can do so the next time it is offered. In that case, you need to register for the next course instance.

Academic integrity, plagiarism and cheating

Your work must be your own. Always cite sources, even if you reuse your own previous work. Plagiarism and cheating are serious offences and may result in suspension.

Cheating includes the use of unauthorized aids, for example in an exam.

Rules to keep in mind

Some of the most important regulations are:

  • Examination rules
  • Study administration rules

Extend your residence permit

If you have a residence permit and need to continue your studies after it expires, you must apply for an extension before your current permit runs out.
You can find more information at the Swedish Migration Agency – Extend residence permit for higher education.

Certificate for delayed studies

If your studies or degree project are delayed, you can request a certificate from BTH. This certificate contains information required by the Swedish Migration Agency when applying to extend your residence permit.

Insurance

As a student, you are covered by personal injury insurance:

  • during school hours
  • when travelling to and from studies or internship

However, you need to arrange your own accident insurance outside school hours and home insurance for your accommodation.

On campus, you have access to everything from study spaces and group rooms to computer labs, microwaves and lockers.

BTH card

Your BTH card gives you access to buildings, group rooms, computer labs and printers. It also functions as a library card and identification on campus during evenings and weekends.

Eduroam wireless network

Connect to the Eduroam network on campus using your student account. It also works for visitors from other universities.

Printing and copying

BTH has a number of multifunction printers that can be used for printing, copying and scanning.

All prints are sent to a common queue called BTHprint and are retrieved on any printer using the BTH card or by logging in with your account.

The library - a place for support and guidance

The library offers several types of support to help you during your studies. You can get help with:
