Wooden lab

In the Wooden Lab, you can work with wood and plastic in a fully equipped workshop. There are both stationary machines and hand tools to help you realise your projects.

Available machines:

  • Planer - to level and adjust thickness
  • Circular saw - for straight and precise cuts
  • Band saw - for curved and more detailed shapes
  • Belt sander - for a smooth and fine surface

These machines require training before they can be used.

In addition, there is a large selection of hand tools and handheld machines that you can use freely without training.

The lab is open to students and employees at BTH who need access to tools and machines for their studies or projects.

Welcome to create and experiment!

CNC milling in the wood lab

The wood lab has a CNC machine that you can use to mill wood or plastic.

Preparations for use

In order to use the machine, you need to have Inventor and Inventor CAM installed on your computer.

In the Inventor CAM module, the following post-processor (ZIP file) must be added to generate the G-code correctly for the milling machine:

  1. Unzip the ZIP file.
  2. Copy uccnc.cps to the folder: ...\Inventor CAM\Posts.

To facilitate the CAM preparation in Inventor, you can download a model of the cutter workspace and stops (ZIP file).

Open the file "Machine_Working_Table_Assembly.iam" and use it as a basis for your preparation.

Control system and simulation

The CNC machine uses the UCCNC control system.

  1. Download the UCCNC (demo version) from the manufacturer's website: https://cncdrive.com/UCCNC.html (ZIP file).
  2. In demo mode, the software can be used to simulate the G-code generated in Inventor CAM. This provides an additional safety check of your machining.
  3. To be able to simulate correctly, the correct profile for the machine must be added:
  4. Start the program in demo mode and load the module "RAW_CNC_BTH".
  5. Open the generated G-code and simulate the toolpaths in the program.

Now you are ready to use the CNC machine in the wood lab!
