New research support tool combines Open Access opportunities with journal quality information

A new support service is now available to help researchers make informed choices when selecting journals for publication.

The updated service is already live and can be accessed here:
https://search.scifree.se/bth

The journal list provides a clear overview of open access publishing opportunities, showing which journals are covered by the library’s open access agreements. Under these agreements, researchers can publish open access without paying article processing charges (APCs) themselves.

In addition, the service now includes journal quality levels from the Norwegian Register for Scientific Journals, Series and Publishers(often referred to as the Norwegian List), a widely used Nordic system for classifying scientific publication channels.

The Norwegian Register classifies journals according to the following levels of scientific quality:

  • Level 2 – Highest scientific quality
  • Level 1 – Approved scientific level
  • Level X – Under evaluation
  • Level 0 – Not approved

By combining information on BIBSAM’s national open access agreements with transparent journal quality indicators, the service helps researchers identify suitable journals for publishing their work open access, with no APC costs and with a clear indication of academic quality. This makes the publication process more transparent and supports strategic choices aligned with both open science principles and research quality requirements.
