New opportunity for students: Double Degree Programme with universities in Germany and Italy
Thanks to BTH’s membership in the Bauhaus4EU alliance, BTH students now have the opportunity to receive a double degree. The jointly executed programmes mark a milestone in the cooperation within the alliance. Already in the Autumn of 2025, students can study a double degree programme in “European Urban and Planning Studies” and, from the autumn of 2026, in “Innovation Management”.

“The programme in European Urban and Planning Studies is the first jointly executed programme within the Bauhaus4EU Alliance, marking a significant milestone in promoting international and interdisciplinary cooperation in higher education, says Gurudutt Velpula, Director of International Affairs at BTH.
The programme addresses the complex challenges and opportunities of contemporary European urban development, with a strong focus on urban planning, social cohesion, heritage, mobility, and sustainable development.
“This Double Degree Programme in European Urban and Planning Studies, jointly offered by Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and Blekinge Institute of Technology, strengthens the European profile of both institutions and provides students with the opportunity to pursue an interdisciplinary education in urban and regional planning”, says Gurudutt Velpula, Director of International Affairs at BTH.
Students will begin their studies in Weimar, spend the third semester in Karlskrona, and complete a jointly supervised Master’s thesis under the guidance of faculty from both institutions.
Graduates from the programme will be awarded two degrees:
- Master of Science (120 credits) in Spatial Planning, specialisation: Strategic Spatial Planning from BTH, Sweden.
- Master of Science (120 ECTS) in European Urban Studies from Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, Germany.
The programme will commence in the winter semester of 2025/26.
Another double degree programme in 2026
Together with the University of Bergamo, BTH will offer another Double Degree Programme in 2026. This programme is a five-semester Master's programme in Innovation management.
Students study the first year in Bergamo, and the remaining 1.5 years at BTH. Upon completion of their studies, they receive:
- A Master's degree in Production Systems from Bergamo, Italy.
- A Master's degree in Innovation Management from BTH, Sweden.
“By combining Bergamo's subject expertise with BTH's subject expertise in two important areas that naturally complement each other, our expectation is that the programme will be attractive to students and subsequently beneficial to business and society”, says programme manager Henrik Sällberg.
Production systems and process innovation, service and product innovation, data analysis as support for production and innovation, and market and external conditions for innovation are the content cornerstones of the programme.
