KAJT - Capacity in Rail Transport

The rail sector is facing challenges and demands for renewal. Capacity for Rail Transport (CYRT) is an industry program that aims to strengthen the rail system's ability to meet society's transport needs.

Objectives

The objective of the research in the program is to improve the utilization of the railway system and to design efficient and reliable traffic flows and related services.

Implementation

Several academic parties, research institutes, infrastructure managers and partner companies collaborate within KAJT. The academic partners are BTH, KTH, LiU, LU and UU. The research institutes are the Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute (VTI) and Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE).

The partner companies are SJ AB, MTR Nordic AB, Green Cargo AB, LKAB, Sweco AB and Transrail AB. The infrastructure manager and main financier of the program is the Swedish Transport Administration (TRV).

To meet the sector's development needs, existing research cooperation between TRV and the Swedish universities affiliated to KAJT will be expanded.

As part of the implementation of the KAJT cooperation, the parties agree to seek to develop Swedish excellent knowledge (in this agreement referred to as excellence) through research in the railway-related subjects where the academy parties already have special knowledge. The cooperation is based on a mutual understanding of the respective parties' competence, needs and benefits and shall contribute to the development and increased competitiveness of the railway sector.
