As a state university, Blekinge Institute of Technology has three main tasks: to provide education, conduct research, and engage and contribute to the surrounding society.
The University also aims to ensure that research results are put to use.
The university's highest decision-making body is the Board of Governors. The head of the authority is the Vice-Chancellor, who has overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of the university.
As an independent authority, BTH is governed by applicable laws and regulations, annual letters of appropriation and the internal guidelines decided by the Board of Governors and the Vice-Chancellor.

The letter of regulation governs the tasks of a government agency and the funds available to the university.
Internal policy documents decided by the Board of Governors and the Vice-Chancellor describe how the university is organized, makes decisions and conducts operations within its mission.
